![]() | Boppy Bare Naked Pillow
Buy new: $27.99 The #1 must-have for the hospital (after a camera, of course). It takes some practice to get the nursing thing down and youll be using new muscles in your arms. This helps.

![]() | What to Expect the First Year, Second Edition by Heidi Murkoff
Buy used from: $0.01 As valuable for new parents as "What to Expect When You're Expecting" is for pregnant women.
![]() | Baby Trend Diaper Champ
Way better than the Diaper Geenie, which is just gross. You can use a regular trash bag with this and you don't have to stick your hand in it.
![]() | Diaper EZ Odor Eliminator
No matter which diaper pail you use, I'm sure the day you empty it is one of the worst days of your week. A couple sprays of this stuff on the diaper before it goes in the pail and life is good again. I also use it as air freshener after particularly bad blow-outs.
![]() | Munchkin Warm Glow Wipe Warmer
Buy new: $20.00 Warm wipes mean you can change a newborn's diaper without waking them up. I mean, would YOU want a freezing cold wipe waking you up?
![]() | Moo Cow Snap All In One AIO One Size Cloth Diaper by Mommy's Touch
Buy new: $11.99 I didn't cloth diaper with my 1st; so glad I did with my 2nd. Fewer diaper rashes, faster potty training, and SO much less money than disposables ($1500-$2000 on disposables before your baby is potty trained.) This particular brand is absorbent, good looking, soft, contains messes, and is really easy to clean.
![]() | Mango Snap Easy Clean Pocket One Size Cloth Diaper by Mommy's Touch with Microfiber Insert
Buy new: $15.99 If you prefer a pocket diaper to an all-in-one, this brand is really good because it unstuffs itself in the washer and you never have to handle a dirty insert. Did I mention that cloth diapering a single baby saves about one ton of garbage in the landfills?
![]() | Rockin' Green Classic Rock Bare Naked Babies 45/90 Loads
Buy new: $18.99 A great cloth diaper detergent. I never get the microfiber stink on my cloth diapers that some people complain about and I have never had to "strip" my diapers while using this detergent. Smells great, you don't need much of it, and you can wash your baby clothes in it also without worrying that your baby will get a rash.
![]() | Dreft Powder Detergent, 40-Load Boxes (Pack of 4)
Our baby had super sensitive skin as a newborn, so this detergent was great.
![]() | Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, 16-Ounce Bottles (Pack of 2)
Buy new: $30.03 So sensitive, in fact, that he broke out in rashes and baby acne with Aveeno and Johnson & Johnson washes. Cetaphil was the only cleanser gentle enough to prevent reactions (and even clear them up!)
![]() | Munchkin Bottle Brush Compbo Set- 2 Deluxe and 1 Sponge Brush
Buy new: $11.99 A must. If you can find one with a nipple cleaning brush, even better.
![]() | Philips Avent 3 Pack 4oz Bottles
Buy new: $16.94 My baby strongly preferred the Avent nipples to the standard, rubbery yellow ones. He seemed to get less uncomfortable tummy gas when we used these, too. We originally bought several sizes of bottles, but he never really drank more than 4 oz. in a sitting. Since youre supposed to dispose of remaining milk after they stop eating, the 4 oz. bottles work just fine.
![]() | Philips AVENT Tempo Nurser, 4 Ounce
Buy new: $16.50 These Avent bottles with the disposable liners are really nice, too.
![]() | Evenflo ExerSaucer Delux - Wild Thing
Any brand of exersaucer will probabably do. We didn't buy one; we opted for a swing and bouncer instead. Then my sister loaned me her exersaucer...which my 1st baby used way more than the swing or bouncer. My second prefered the swing and bouncer.
![]() | Fisher-Price Rainforest Open-Top Cradle Swing
Buy new: $105.00 We loved that this swing could be switched to move either front-to-back like a regular swing or side-to-side like a cradling motion. The multiple music modes were great for different baby moods. My 2nd baby would instantly relax when I put her in this swing, even if she was a hysterical mess a moment before.
![]() | Britax Companion Infant Car Seat Onyx
![]() | Moby Wrap Original 100% Cotton Baby Carrier, Sienna
Buy new: $44.95 This is the style (not brand) of wrap I love. It distributes weight evenly and prevents backaches. Initially, I tried to do household chores one-handed while I carried a baby in the crook of my arm. I got the wrap and no longer had arm and elbow pain at the end of the day, plus kept my baby and I snuggled up together. You can use this wrap from newborn until baby starts walking (and after).
![]() | Bebe Au Lait Nursing Cover, Mint Chocolate
Buy new: $31.83 I'm a huge advocate for breastfeeding and there's not always a private place you can go to feed your baby. A nursing cover helps you nurse very discretely. The wire collar on this one helps a new mother to have visibility while trying to figure out the whole nursing thing, but maintain her privacy at the same time.
![]() | Medela 100% Cotton Washable Nursing Bra Pads
Buy new: $6.73 I tried the disposable pads and they were fine, but I got the washable ones to save packing space for a long vacation. Surprise! I liked the washable ones a lot better. They stay in place better than the disposable ones, which tend to fold as you move them in and out of place for nursing.
![]() | Medela Comfort Nursing Bra
Buy new: $24.00 - $39.00 This bra was the easiest for me to nurse in because it opens pretty much all the way, instead of just providing a little nursing "hole." The straps do come racerback style, though, so they would often show with my shirts. I just wore different clothes, because this bra was my favorite by far.
![]() | Medela New Pump in Style Original Breast Pump
If you're going back to work, you'll probably need an electric pump. The lactation specialist at the hospital recommended this one and I love it.
![]() | Medela Pump & Save Breastmilk Bags - 50 pack
Buy new: $16.99 You can pump straight into these bags, mark them with the date, and stick them in the freezer.
![]() | Medela Quick Clean Micro-Steam Bags
Buy new: $6.85 I wish I'd gotten these sooner instead of hand washing pump parts all the time.
![]() | Kidco Babysteps Electric Food Mill
Buy new: $29.95 Money saver! For baby food on demand, puree some of your meal with a bit of liquid to thin it. For bigger batches for sitters, steam a batch of vegetables and puree using a big food processor (thin with the vitamin-rich steaming water) or puree raw fruit. Pour puree into an ice tray and cover with plastic wrap. Freeze, then pop the cubes into a freezer bag. Frozen food is good for a month.
![]() | Munchkin 2 Pack Fresh Food Feeder, Colors May Vary
Buy new: $7.05 Also good around 7 months. An awesome way to feed baby fresh food without stressing out about him/her choking. My baby liked cantaloupe, plum, and nectarine in this. Top row dishwasher safe.
![]() | The First Years Night and Day Bottle Warmer System
Buy new: $38.09 We had the Philips bottle warmer for our first baby and liked it OK, but we got this brand as a shower gift for our second baby and LOVE it!
![]() | Peg Perego Prima Pappa Diner in Oatmeal
We love how this high chair rolls, but has breaks. The entire seat reclines (not just the backrest), so if your baby gets sleepy while watching you cook or something, you can lay him/her back. It also has dual trays, so the top one can be removed and stuck in the dishwasher while the other one is still usable.
![]() | Fisher-Price Healthy Care Booster Seat, Yellow and Orange
Buy new: $24.99 If I had everything to do all over again, I don't think I would spring for the expensive high chair. While it is convenient, it was pretty expensive. This booster, on the other hand, can convert a regular chair into a high chair, plus you can take it to Grandma's for Sunday dinner. It's easy to clean, too. If you've got an empty chair at the table, this is a great way to save money.
![]() | Arm's Reach Co-Sleeper Mini Bassinet Convertible, Coco Natural
Buy new: $149.00 When you're still feeding the baby multiple times during the night, you'll want the baby in a bassinet close to your bed instead of in the nursery. This one was awesome because the dropped side next to your bed lets you easily look over and make sure your baby was OK instead of having to sit up in bed to look into the bassinet.
![]() | Cloud b Twilight Constellation Night Light, Turtle
Buy new: $27.91 / Used from: $24.87 Our baby loves to stare at the stars on the ceiling and change the colors himself. Now they have a ladybug version, too, which is so cute.
![]() | Fisher-Price Go Baby Go Sit-To-Stand Giraffe
Buy new: $45.25 Our baby loved this starting at about 7 months. It's the best toy we've gotten for him.
![]() | The First Years Sure Comfort Newborn to Toddler Tub
Buy new: $18.99 / Used from: $12.33 |
![]() | Munchkin Fire Ducky Spout Guard
Buy new: $9.99 This is a simple little gadget that keeps your munchkin from bumping or scraping themselves on the tub spout. The hat lifts up so you can put bubble bath in it; the gel then slowly drips into the running water. Also available in a more girly version.
![]() | Lamaze Peekaboo, I Love You
Buy new: $28.59 My babies both LOVED this book from very early on. A diaper bag essential.
![]() | Lifescapes - Lullabies by Various Artists
Buy used from: $0.24 The lullabye CD I have is branded from Parents Magazine, but I think it's the same as this. The artist is Timothy Frantzich. Puts baby (and me) in a very calm mood while in the rocking chair.
